A paid-entry bookstore on the 7th floor of Iwataya department store in central Tenjin, Bunkitsu stocks around 30,000 individually curated books across a mix of reading rooms, a cafe, and a children's area. The entrance fee gets you a seat, unlimited coffee and green tea refills, and access to a calm, library-like space designed for slow browsing and focused work. The Google Business listing explicitly calls it usable as a coworking space, and the reading room is set up for exactly that.
The reading room has WiFi, power outlets, and individual separated seating. The atmosphere is quiet and focused, modeled on a Western-style library. If you need to take a call or have a conversation, move to the coffee house area, which also has outlets and WiFi but allows talking. Both areas permit food and drinks.
Pricing is 880 yen per hour on both weekdays and weekends, with extensions at 440 yen per 30 minutes. Full-day rates are 2,640 yen on weekdays and 3,520 yen on weekends. Students get half price. The hourly rate is comparable to buying a coffee at a specialty cafe, and the unlimited refills of coffee, sencha, and rooibos tea are included. A full cafe menu is also available with curry, sandwiches, and desserts.
The space is busiest on Friday afternoons (Google popular times peak at 100 around 14:00) and quietest on Monday and Tuesday mornings. Weekday mornings are the sweet spot for uninterrupted work at the lowest rate. The store closes at 20:00 with last food orders at 19:30, so this is a daytime workspace only. Monthly passes and multi-visit tickets are available through the official app for regular users.
