てらにし珈琲店 本店
A traditional kissaten in Hiroshima that has been drawing queues since 1978. Teranishi Coffee is run by an all-male team in formal attire who treat every table with the kind of precision you'd expect from somewhere charging three times the price. The interior is warm wood with retro decor, antique roasters, and a counter where you can watch the kitchen work. It feels like walking back into a different era of Japanese coffee culture.
The coffee is roasted in-house on a Probat roaster next door, then extracted through original nel (flannel) cloth at the bar. The house blend is dark, smooth, and balanced. Multiple reviewers call it the best coffee they've had in Japan. Drinks come with house-made milk adjusted specifically for coffee. The bread is baked on-site daily, thick-cut, crisped in retro toasters, and served with a choice of house-made jams including strawberry, blueberry, and apricot. The morning set comes with a mountain of cabbage salad dressed in house-made dressing. Reviewers consistently order seconds.
Set options include the Morning Set (¥935) with thick-cut toast, salad, and coffee, the Canadian Set with a grilled ham, egg, and cucumber sandwich topped with cocktail sauce, the Snack Set with ham or bacon and egg, and the Omelette Set with a fluffy plain omelette. All sets include a drink from the full menu. The morning sets are only available until 11am, so plan accordingly. One reviewer notes you can order toast without the ham and substitute a salad-only option if you're vegetarian. Vegan and gluten-free options are not confirmed.
This is not a work-from-cafe spot. There is no wifi, no outlet mentions anywhere in 300 reviews, and the space is small with table service. Seating turns over through demand, not a timer. If you come for a quiet working session, pick somewhere else. If you come for the best breakfast in Hiroshima, this is the place. Staff give out branded coasters and small pieces of homemade chocolate to departing guests. The care is genuine and people notice it.
A few things worth knowing before you go. Cash only. No cards, no IC, no QR. Bring yen. The shop is closed Sundays and public holidays. Queues form early. Weekday mornings after 8:30am can mean a 20-30 minute wait outside, and Saturdays can push an hour. Arriving before 8:10am or after 2pm on a weekday usually avoids the worst of it. Groups larger than three will struggle to seat together. An English menu is available, and several staff members can manage basic English.

A 5-minute walk from the Hilton Hotel Hiroshima and a good laundromat is next door. Free parking is available across the street from the shop.
Takaramachi is a quiet residential and commercial pocket in Naka Ward, central Hiroshima, roughly 15 minutes on foot from Hiroshima Station and a short tram ride from the Peace Memorial Park. It sits just east of the Hilton Hotel Hiroshima and has an everyday neighbourhood feel with local cafes, laundromats, and small shops rather than tourist-facing businesses. For nomads, it works as a calm base within easy reach of Hiroshima's central tram network.
