ホテルモントレ長崎
Hotel Monterey Nagasaki is a Portuguese-themed hotel in the Oura district, steps from the Oura Kaigan-dori tram stop. Hand-painted blue tile murals line the facade. The tiles were made one by one by Portuguese artisans. For remote workers passing through Nagasaki, the hotel offers day-use rooms that give you a private, quiet space to work without committing to an overnight stay.
The day-use plan runs ¥4,000 for 4 hours, available 8:00–17:00. You get a full hotel room to yourself. A desk, bed to put bags on, and a private bathroom. This is different from a lobby coworking seat. No shared table, no background noise, and a door that closes. Wi-Fi is included throughout the hotel (free in rooms and lobby). No speed data is confirmed from independent tests, so treat it as suitable for calls and general browsing rather than large uploads.
The ground-floor restaurant, Amalia Salon, serves Italian cuisinewith Nagasaki-sourced ingredients in a room styled after a Portuguese palace. Breakfast runs 7:00–9:30 (Japanese and Western buffet, ¥2,800/person). The restaurant is open to non-guests for lunch and dinner. Dietary options are not confirmed on the website. Confirm availability of vegetarian or other requirements directly with the hotel.
The hotel sits in the most atmospheric part of Nagasaki. Glover Garden and Oura Cathedral are within walking distance, as is the Confucius Temple (~4 min on foot) and Dejima Wharf. The Gunkan-jima (Battleship Island) cruise departure point is also nearby. If you are spending a working day in Nagasaki before or after sightseeing, this location puts everything within reach.

From Nagasaki Station, take tram line 1 toward Shukofuji to Shin-Chinatown (新地中華街), then transfer to line 5 toward Ishibashi and exit at Oura Kaigan-dori (大浦海岸通り). Total journey is about 20 minutes. The hotel is immediately at the stop. Look for the white building with the blue-tiled Portuguese murals.
From Nagasaki Airport, take the limousine bus to Shin-Chinatown (35 min), then walk across the pedestrian crossing toward the tram tracks, turn right, and follow the tracks past the Medical Center. Turn left at the Oura Kaigan-dori intersection (18th Shinwa Bank on the left). The hotel is on your immediate left (10 min on foot from bus stop).
Oura is the historic waterfront neighbourhood in southern Nagasaki, running along the bay below the hillside district of Minami-Yamate. It is the most sightseeing-dense part of the city. Oura Cathedral, Japan's only Gothic cathedral and a national treasure, sits at the top of the hill. Glover Garden, the former residences of British and Dutch merchants overlooking the harbour, is a five-minute walk. The reconstructed Dejima trading island and Nagasaki Chinatown are a short tram ride away.
For remote workers, Oura is quieter than the central Hamanomachi shopping district but has everything needed for a productive layover. The Oura Kaigan-dori tram stop puts you one transfer from Nagasaki Station (total journey around 20 minutes). The neighbourhood has smaller cafes and restaurants catering to tourists but stays calm on weekday mornings. The colonial-era architecture and harbour views make it one of the more distinctive places in Kyushu to spend a working afternoon.
