Mogi-machi is a historic fishing village on Tachibana Bay, approximately 15 minutes by car from central Nagasaki over a mountain pass. Once a summer retreat for foreign residents of the colonial-era settlement, it retains a quiet, unhurried atmosphere with flat streets that are unusual for hilly Nagasaki. By public bus from Nagasaki Station the journey takes around 25 to 30 minutes on the Nagasaki Bus. The village is best explored by bicycle. Food options are limited to local restaurants serving fresh fish, so nomads staying longer should plan self-catering. The sunrise over the bay is widely considered one of the finest views in the Nagasaki region.
