フグレン フクオカ
A laptop-friendly cafe in Hakata that actually delivers on both fronts. Fuglen is a Norwegian coffee brand founded in Oslo in 1963. This Fukuoka location is their only shop in Kyushu, opened in 2022 on the ground floor of Mol.t, an office building near Hakata Station. The website puts it simply. "A comfortable place to work and also a place to enjoy a relaxing break with a cup of coffee." The space backs that up.
The room has high ceilings, glass walls, and natural light with mid-century Scandinavian furniture in dark wood, quiet background music, and no sense of being rushed. Reviews consistently call it library-like in the mornings. Power outlets are at many seats and described as "ample" across multiple reviews. One reviewer noted that the Fukuoka location has more charging stations than the Tokyo branches because of the office building setting. Wifi is available and confirmed fast. Ask staff for the password, as it's not posted at tables.
Coffee is light-roasted, single-origin, and changes with the season. The hand-drip is the thing to order. They give you a card with the bean's origin and flavor notes. Oat milk is available for non-dairy drinkers (confirmed by multiple reviewers). No specific vegan or gluten-free food options mentioned. If you're an espresso person, order a double shot. Single lattes are consistently called too light. The Brunost (Norwegian brown cheese) toast is the food highlight. Polarizing but worth trying. On Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays they serve cocktails from 6pm, so the vibe shifts in the evening.
A few things worth knowing. If you order takeaway, you cannot sit inside. This is strictly enforced and has annoyed several reviewers. Weekday mornings before 8am are quiet. By 9am on popular days it can be 70-90% full. Weekends see queues, so arrive early.

From Hakata Station, take the Chikushi Exit and walk east for about 8-10 minutes. The cafe is on the ground floor of Hakata East Terrace (Mol.t), an office building. If you're staying at the APA Hotel next door, it's right around the corner.
Hakata is Fukuoka's main transit hub and commercial center, built around Hakata Station. The area is packed with restaurants, hotels, and office buildings, making it the most convenient base for remote workers passing through Fukuoka. The Shinkansen stops here, and the airport is just two subway stops away.
The east side of the station has a growing number of cafes and coworking spaces in newer office buildings. Quieter than the Tenjin entertainment district and more walkable for daily errands. Yatai food stalls along the Naka River are a 15-minute walk west.
