The Pier Goto

The Pier is a small coliving space on Goto Islandin Nagasaki Prefecture, operated by yugyo Inc. And housed on the second floor of the SERENDIP HOTEL GOTO building in central Fukue. Six private rooms occupy the floor, each with a semi-double bed, desk, mirror, clothes rack, and outlets. Set up from day one for remote work. The interiors were designed by a Nagasaki-based architecture firm that trained under Kengo Kuma, with a pier aesthetic running through every shared space.

Community is the defining feature. The Pier runs a Discord and WhatsApp group that includes both residents and local islanders, so you can ask for a fishing spot recommendation or a car ride and get an answer within minutes. Past residents report karaoke nights, BBQs on island farms, beach sunsets, stargazing, foot onsen, cooking competitions, and coworking sessions at cafés around the island. The philosophy here is that nomads ("wind people") and locals ("earth people") mix to create something genuinely new. Not just a remote-work retreat.

For remote work, Wi-Fi is available throughout all buildings with no reported issues on video calls. The in-building coworking space is set up as private meeting rooms but lacks natural light. Most residents work from the ground-floor café of the SERENDIP HOTEL GOTO. Ordering a single coffee is perfectly acceptable, and locals do the same. The coliving is5 minutes on foot from Fukue Portand surrounded by a supermarket, Lawson, and Matsumoto Kiyoshi. There is no food service on-site. Dietary options not confirmed. Meals are self-catered using the shared kitchen.
