ディスカバリーハカタサウス
Discovery Hakata South is a 35-room international sharehouse in Fukuoka's Morooka neighborhood, about 10 minutes on foot from Sasahara Station. The concept is English immersion. The shared lounge enforces an English-only conversation rule, and the house runs free English conversation lessons four times a week at beginner and advanced levels.
Rooms come in three tiers. Dormitory beds start at ¥35,000/month plus a ¥15,000 common fee that covers utilities, internet, and cleaning. Shared doubles are ¥40,000 and private rooms are ¥50,000, both plus the same common fee. There is no deposit. Key money is ¥30,000, occasionally waived during campaigns. Long-stay residents get ¥5,000 off after one year and ¥10,000 off after two.
The building has a dedicated study room with desks for quiet work, a theater room with a projector, and a lounge for socializing. Internet is cable (CATV) with building-wide WiFi and wired LAN in each room. Six washing machines are free to use. Cleaning staff come three times a week.
The resident mix skews young and working. About 73% are employed professionals and 27% are students, with a roughly even gender split. Monthly international exchange parties and cross-house events with other Discovery properties in Fukuoka keep the social calendar active. An on-site resident manager handles day-to-day operations.
One thing to know before committing. Morooka is a residential area south of central Hakata, not walkable to the main entertainment or business districts. You will rely on the JR line (6 minutes to Hakata Station) or bus for anything beyond groceries. The internet is cable, not fiber, so heavy uploads or video production may hit limits. Bathrooms are shared across all 35 rooms. This is a community-first environment, not a private apartment.

The apartment has a good in-room work setup, but if you want a change of scenery or need meeting rooms, these are the closest options.

The nearest station is Sasahara Station on the JR Kagoshima Line, a 10-minute walk from the house. From there, Hakata Station is just 6 minutes by train. Ijiri Station on the Nishi-Tetsu Tenjin-Omuta Line is a 13-minute walk and reaches Tenjin in 10 minutes. There is also a bus stop (Morookashikaku) 2 minutes away with direct service to Hakata in about 20 minutes.
Hakata is Fukuoka's main transit hub and commercial center, built around Hakata Station. The area is packed with restaurants, hotels, and office buildings, making it the most convenient base for remote workers passing through Fukuoka. The Shinkansen stops here, and the airport is just two subway stops away.
The east side of the station has a growing number of cafes and coworking spaces in newer office buildings. Quieter than the Tenjin entertainment district and more walkable for daily errands. Yatai food stalls along the Naka River are a 15-minute walk west.
