Nagasaki's startup exchange hub, CO-DEJIMA opened in March 2019 on the second floor of the Dejima Gathering Hall, next to the Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum on the historic Dejima waterfront. The space is operated by the Nagasaki prefectural government as an incubation and networking facility for startups, founders, freelancers, and the local business community.
General membership is free and gives access to the open working area, meeting corner, and event space. The coworking floor runs 170 sqm with projector, a 150-inch screen, TV monitor, and whiteboard. A meeting area seating around four to six people is available at no cost to registered members. No food or drinks are served on site. Dietary options are not confirmed and no food service is provided.
Fixed booth residents pay ¥5,170 per month (utilities included) for a dedicated desk of approximately 5 sqm, a chair, lighting, a locker cabinet, and access to a residents-only Wi-Fi network. Applications are subject to a screening process. Fixed booth residents have 24-hour access to the building, unlike general members who are limited to opening hours.
The space is woven into the Nagasaki startup ecosystem. Partner facilities include DIAGONAL RUN FUKUOKA, SALT Fukuoka, HOOD Tenjin, SHIBUYA QWS in Tokyo, and The Association Tokyo. Member benefit details for cross-facility use can be checked on the website. Frequent seminars, networking nights, and pitching events are held on site, and the event space can be reserved for free by any member who wants to host their own session.
Reviewers describe stylish interiors with round ship-like windows facing the waterfront, a calm open seating layout, and a facility that punches above its price for anyone looking to connect with Nagasaki's small but active founder community. One reviewer noted they wish for a more focused quiet zone. A printer is available but can be fiddly according to one regular user.

Take the Nagasaki Electric Tramway to Dejima Stop (出島電停) on Line 1. The space is a 3-minute walk from the stop. Head toward the Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum on the waterfront. CO-DEJIMA is on the second floor of the Dejima Gathering Hall (出島合流会館), the building immediately adjacent to the museum. From central Nagasaki Station, the tram ride takes approximately 10 minutes.
Dejima is the historic waterfront district at the centre of Nagasaki city, built on the site of Japan's famous fan-shaped artificial island that served as the country's only authorized trading post during the Edo period. Today the area sits along the port at the mouth of the Urakami River, fronted by Dejima Wharf, a two-storey complex of restaurants and commercial spaces that looks directly out over Nagasaki Harbour.
The neighbourhood is quiet during working hours but comes alive in the evenings. The reconstructed Dejima historical site is a short walk away, and the broader Urakami riverside area offers cafes, small restaurants, and easy pedestrian access along the water. Nagasaki Chinatown is roughly ten minutes on foot. The waterfront tram lines connect directly to JR Nagasaki Station in under ten minutes.
