Borderless House Akihabara (listed as Asakusabashi1) is a multicultural sharehouse four minutes from Asakusabashi Station in central Tokyo, in the area grouped with Ueno, Asakusa, and Akihabara. The building runs five floors with a community cafe lounge on the ground floor where the house hosts international cooking events, English conversation workshops, and local neighbourhood projects. The shared living room and kitchen are on the top floor, open and bright with windows across multiple walls.
Like all Borderless House properties, this one maintains a 50% Japanese / 50% international resident mix. At the time of writing, 18 residents from 8 countries live here. The house attracts people in their 20s and 30s. Language school students, working holiday visa holders, and international workers looking for affordable Tokyo housing with a built-in social life. Residents join the Borderless Mates network of over 15,000 past and present tenants across Japan, Korea, and Taiwan.
No guarantor and no key money are required. The initial fee is ¥45,000 (¥30,000 key money replacement fee plus ¥15,000 cleaning fee). Rooms are fully furnished with desk, chair, air conditioner, refrigerator, and high-speed WiFi. Monthly rent runs from ¥71,000 to ¥75,000 with utilities and internet billed separately at ¥15,000 per month, bringing the total all-in monthly cost to approximately ¥86,000 to ¥90,000. No specific dietary restrictions apply. Residents cook for themselves in the shared kitchen, accommodating any diet including vegetarian, vegan, and halal.
The house is a 4-minute walk from Asakusabashi Stationon the JR Chuo-Sobu Line and Toei Asakusa Line. From Akihabara Station (one stop on the Toei Asakusa Line, or 8 minutes on foot from the house), all major Tokyo destinations are within 30 minutes. Shinjuku in 18 minutes, Ueno in 13 minutes, Shinagawa in 26 minutes, and Ikebukuro in 23 minutes. Bakurocho Station on the JR Sobu Rapid Line is an 8-minute walk as an alternate option.
