アーティストカフェフクオカ
A free, city-operated cafe in a former junior high school buildinga short walk from Ohori Park. Artist Cafe Fukuoka (ACF) is run by Fukuoka City as a growth and exchange hub for artists. But anyone can walk in, sit down, and work. No purchase required, no time limit, and no registration needed.
The community space is the main area open to drop-in visitors. It has free Wi-Fi, power outlets, and tables surrounded by art books and rotating exhibitionsby emerging Fukuoka artists. The furniture is not ordinary. ACF borrows pre-war wooden bookshelves, desks, and mid-century design chairs from Kyushu University Museum's historical preservation project. The combination of the old school building shell and these pieces gives the space a character you won't find in a commercial cafe.
There is a small cafe counter serving drinks. No specific vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free options are confirmed from available sources. You can sit with or without ordering. The space is explicitly framed asopen to everyone, whether you are working, reading, or just looking for a quiet place to think. A compact workshop area with a press and painting materials is also available for hands-on creative work.
The broader facility includes a Gallery, Grand Studio (a repurposed gymnasium for large-scale works), and two smaller studios used for the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum Artist-in-Residence program. All spaces have free Wi-Fi and power outlets. Exhibitions, talks, screenings, and workshops cycle through regularly. Check the website before you go if you want to catch something specific.

The closest subway station is Akasaka Station on the Fukuoka City Subway Kūkō Line, about a 12-minute walk. From Tenjin Station it is around 15 minutes on foot. The facility is located in Jonai (城内), a quiet residential enclave adjacent to Maizuru Park and the old Fukuoka Castle grounds. Note. Entrance ① on the San-no-maru Square side closes at 17:00. Use entrance ② or ③ after that time.
Maizuru is a quiet residential and cultural pocket of Chuo Ward, wedged between Ohori Park to the west and the old Fukuoka Castle grounds (Maizuru Park) to the north. The Jonai area within Maizuru is unusually calm for a central city location. Fukuoka Prefectural Government offices, the Asian Art Museum, and several arts facilities sit nearby, giving the neighborhood a civic and creative character. There are few tourist crowds and a relaxed pace. Tenjin is a 15-minute walk east or a short bus ride, and Akasaka Station on the Subway Kuko Line is the nearest rail access.
